Locais, redes, espaços: a imprensa anglófona na Itália

Ao longo de todo século XIX e até a Primeira Guerra Mundial, mais de cento e trinta periódicos em língua inglesa foram publicados na Itália. Um estudo estatístico do corpus revela a grande diversidade dessas publicações. Embora todos colaborassem para as trocas entre o mundo anglófono e a Itália, as questões mobilizadas por cada um deles são bastante distintas. Este artigo analisa certo número de publicações que realizam trocas e transferências culturais, com foco nos locais de publicação e nas redes formadas pelos mediadores que estão na origem desses projetos editoriais. Como conclusão, o artigo levanta questões sobre o tipo de espaço cultural transnacional criado por esses periódicos.

Throughout the XIXth century, until World War I, more than 130 periodicals written in English were published in Italy. A statistical study of the corpus reveals the vast diversity of these publications. While all of them played a role in the ongoing exchanges between the English-speaking world and the Italian peninsula, each one of them brings to the discussion different questions. This paper looks at a number of titles engaged in a dynamic of cultural exchange and transference, paying close attention to the places of publication and the networks of cultural brokers that started these journalistic enterprises. In conclusion, the paper raises questions about the type of transnational cultural space created by these periodicals.
